Axess Commercial Interiors was engaged by the Parliament of Victoria to undertake internal heritage demolition in preparation for future renovations being undertaken.
Like many older buildings, the available documentation did not show details of the existing conditions so a literal brick by brick demolition was required with constant assessments for services, hazardous materials and safety issues.
Engaged as the Head Contractor, we engaged professional teams to undertake the demolition works, services (electrical, mechanical and fire) removal and relocation and the removal of bluestone paving.
Early investigations found that the bluestone had flooring installed that had been laid using glues that were deemed hazardous. This necessitated a highly specialised crew to encapsulate the areas of concern for it’s safe removal.
The works entailed demolition of brick and partition walls, glass bead blasting of bluestone flooring and the subsequent removal of bluestone paving all within heritage regulations.
Our first project in this historically significant building was completed within timeframes and budgets. We were able to schedule works around Parliament operations and to the exacting standards required for heritage.
